Calzone Sliders

What's better than pizza? Well, arguably, almost nothing…but these sliders are a close second! For those of you from the Abilene area, you may remember Joe’s Pizza. This is a hole-in-the-wall Italian joint with delicious food. It is the best combination: inexpensive with HUGE portions. The calzones here can be eaten family style between 2 or 3 people. I loved eating there with my family growing up and continued eating there in college when I introduced several of my roommates and friends to the place.

We all know that King’s Hawaiian rolls make for good ham sliders…but I dare you to just eat one of this version packed full of Italian meat, cheese, and seasonings. Not to mention, this is the easiest recipe ever. These calzone sliders make a PERFECT weeknight meal OR when you are entertaining. Serve a simple caesar salad along with these sliders and dinner is done!

This recipe is so customizable too. Don’t love salami and would rather sub in prosciutto? Go ahead! Want to add a little parm on top? Be my guest. The basics are loads of deli meat, layered with cheese and sauce, topped with garlic butter and baked until you have calzone perfection.

Just take my word for it — make this ASAP and DO NOT SKIMP ON THE BUTTER! Trust me, it may seem like a lot because it is but it makes the sliders taste like they are straight form Little Italy heaven. I cannot even begin to describe how much flavor one teaspoon of Italian Seasoning adds to the butter. Everyone in your house will come running to the kitchen. Buon appetito!

Notes

Make sure to use non-stick cooking spray and not parchment paper. I tried both methods and the non-stick cooking spray was a clear winner and makes the bottoms of the sliders perfectly crisp.

You can easily double the recipe if making for a larger crowd. Trust me these sliders go fast!
