Mother’s Day is this SUNDAY y’all! If you are looking for a last-minute gift, books are always my favorite option… and thank goodness for two-day shipping via Amazon Prime! Many times cooking can be a sign of care or affection, but it can also be an escape. For me, cookbooks are exactly that, an ESCAPE! Each cookbook is linked below!

Does your mom love to entertain & host parties?! If so, this is the PERFECT cookbook for her! Each chapter is themed around a party, which I love! My copy of this cookbook (above) is different than the one on Amazon. I wish I had the other cover, but the good news is the flowers and table setting scream Mother’s Day! 🙂
This Southern Living Party Cookbook was originally published in 1972. The new “modern day reinterpretation” still has many of the original recipes, but also includes several new recipes from Elizabeth Heiskell, who is a Southern Living contributor that happens to live a short car ride away from us in the quaint town of Oxford, Mississippi. Elizabeth comes from a family of hostesses and is the go-to caterer in Oxford, boy does it show! Her classic southern recipes with a fresh twist, time-saving tips, and unique party themes show her wealth knowledge when it comes to cooking & entertaining!
Julia Reed is a very well known author and entertainer. Being a native of the Mississippi Delta, it’s safe to say she knows a thing or two about southern cooking. Not to mention, she now calls New Orleans home. NOLA just happens to be my absolute favorite foodie city! If your mom loves antiques and china then this book will definitely be a winner! Each page is full of BEAUTIFUL photography and has recipes that range from Fried Chicken to Charlotte Russe! There are a total of 12 chapters, and each one is centered around an occasion that includes a drink, appetizer, side dish, main course, and of course DESSERT!
“The printed page is where practicality intersects with romance in the kitchen.”
– Kerry Diamond, editor and founder of Cherry Bombe
Is your mom passionate about cooking? Is her favorite TV channel the Food Network? Does she love the movie Julie & Julia? If you answered yes to any of these questions then this TIMELESS, classic cookbook by Julia Child is sure to please! Not to mention the price is amazing for the quality of the book! Julia Child was one of the pioneers when it came to cookbooks, French cooking for Americans, and also one of the first to ever have a cooking show! Don’t expect to find photographs in this cookbook — instead, there are hand-drawn images of each step. It’s definitely one of a kind, and you can see that Julia poured her heart and soul into it. After all, it only took her a decade to write the whole thing! 😉
“People who love to eat are always the best people.”
– Julia Child
Who doesn’t love Joanna Gaines?? I didn’t think that I could love her anymore just from watching Fixer Upper, but I developed a whole new respect for her after trying several of the recipes from Magnolia Table. If your mom loves to cook, but is always looking for an easy, practical approach to recipes then this is the book for her! I’ve been SUPER IMPRESSED with all of the recipes I’ve tried so far. She never ceases to amaze me with her endless talents! If I had blind tasted these recipes I would have definitely thought they came from someone on the level of a Food Network Star! Not to mention, most of the recipes are very simple which is key for me! I love that she isn’t afraid to use crescent rolls as a shortcut, or already prepared rotisserie chicken which is a huge timesaver!
“Go and find what it is that inspires you, go and find what it is that you love, and go do that until it hurts.”
– Joanna Gaines
Last, but definitely not least is Mimi Thorrison’s cookbook, A Kitchen in France. She, her husband, and five children moved from Paris to Médoc, France in 2010 and never looked back. Moving to Médoc was the founding inspiration to her gorgeous food blog, Manger. She has been featured in Vogue and has an amazing story that is told through her book. Not to mention, her husband is an INCREDIBLE photographer which definitely contributes to the dreaminess of each page. When I need an “escape” this is one of my go-to’s. Is your mom obsessed with ALL things French?? If so, this will be a winner! I love that all the recipes are categorized by seasons, which is very French in itself!
“When you have a piece of paper in your hand that you can jot notes on, that picks up spills and food stains — those marks become battle scars and bragging rights.”
– Chef Sean Brock
